I wanted to know what all I had on my new electronic dictionary, but since it’s all in Japanese I was having trouble keeping track of what was what. I decided to make a reference chart for myself, and I’d like it to be available to others with similar problems. So here is a ridiculously detailed list of contents (in English and Japanese) for the Casio EX-Word Dataplus 5 XD-A9800. It is a Google Document and should be accessible to anyone.

By any chance, can you figure out what is the layout button for and how to use it?

If you hit shift and then hit the layout button it changes the way the text is displayed in certain places–so if you’re looking at a dictionary entry, it will space the text differently or get rid of the lines. Also, if you’re reading one of the e-books that’s on there, you can switch which direction the text goes from (up-down to left-right, etc.)

but, i’m still not sure how to use the denshi jisho. is there a manual in english on the net at all?
i’m using it mainly to translate japanese into english and to look up the kanji.

Hi. I have the exact same model, but i wanted to ask something general about denshi jishos, when i bought it some of my japanese learning friends told me that i can add some dictionaries to it with its data cable or with an sd card. Do you know anything like that? Thanks.

I’m afraid I haven’t found a furigana option for the dictionaries themselves, but I believe the Quick Search option will give you the kana reading on any kanji (don’t have my dictionary on hand to check).
